Stereotypical behaviours

"Stereotypical behaviours" mean that identical, monotonous actions are taken.

Adolescents with autism have different types of recurring behaviours that do not seem appropriate but which they fixate on. They are usually afraid of change and want recurring routines. They often develop unusual movement patterns, like swinging, rocking or tiptoeing, spinning and waving. They often react strongly to different sensory impressions.
