Difficulties in social interaction

Children with autism have a greatly reduced ability to interact with others. They give poor eye contact and it is difficult to see if they are happy or sad. They show an inability and lack of interest to want to play with others and do not manage conflicts with friends. Children with autism do not spontaneously want to take part in activities with others and often withdraw from body contact, unless they may take the initiative themselves. They seem to prefer to be on their own rather than in contact with other people.
